MANILA – The University of Santo Tomas (UST) stayed perfect in the UAAP Season 88 women’s basketball tournament after demolishing the University of the East (UE), 125-50, at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay on Wednesday.
Kent Pastrana scored a career-best 35 points to go with 12 rebounds, five steals, two assists, and one block as the Growling Tigresses earned a playoff for a twice-to-beat advantage with an 11-0 record.
“I am so happy with my performance today. That’s what I always tell myself that I will give everything I can to the team to win every game and of course, as a leader, I’ll always do my best to help my teammates and coaches,” said Pastrana, who finished with 25 points against the University of the Philippines on Nov. 5.
UST will meet Ateneo at the SMART Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City on Nov. 15. Its last two games will be against defending champion National University and Far Eastern University.
“We’re very proud of what our players did. We just want to carry on our momentum going into the playoffs because as we all know, the one game last weekend was cancelled. We just want to continue and carry on our momentum, especially the next two opponents are Ateneo and NU,” UST assistant coach Ged Austria said.
UST’s 125 points is the highest scoring output in the UAAP women’s basketball since NU’s 131-47 win over UE on Oct. 2, 2022.
